BIO

Anna Carroll studied nursing and medical assisting at the University of Kentucky and worked for a private practice in general and vascular surgery. Following her original career path, she transitioned into international work with various NGOs.

In 2009, Anna relocated to Costa Rica to help a local NGO with its children-at-risk program in various provinces of the country. Shortly thereafter, she established her own NGO, LightForce International (D.B.A. LFI), in an effort to respond to the growing issue of human trafficking she encountered at the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua. For more than a decade, Anna has implemented numerous initiatives and programs internationally that focus on health, prevention, awareness and rehabilitation for those suffering from poverty and exploitation.  Today, she is the Executive Director of Refuge City (formerly LightForce International). Anna travels extensively in her work, and also addresses global social justice issues through her speaking and writing.
